FindMilo is a community alert tool that helps you rally local volunteers if your pet goes missing. It is not insurance and not an emergency service. We cannot promise your pet will be found or that anyone will respond. You sign in with your email and a one-time code, with no password. Once you save your pet's profile, the alarm is ready to use (in paid areas you also need an active subscription or a free year). You can invite up to three people to share your pets, so a household can sound the alarm together on one subscription. Volunteers (searchers) are not our staff and are only email-verified, so please stay safe and use common sense. There is no messaging inside the app; a searcher can choose to share a WhatsApp number on a sighting so you can message them on WhatsApp. You can report a sighting or an alarm, and block the person who sent it. If you join while your area is still growing, your first year is free, with no card taken and nothing that renews into a payment. Paid subscriptions are bought through the App Store or Google Play, and you cancel there too. If you have a problem, tell us first and we will try to sort it out.
1.WHO WE ARE AND WHAT THESE TERMS COVER
these terms are the contract between you and us for using FindMilo.
1.1.These terms of service (the Terms) govern your use of the FindMilo mobile application, our related services, and any features within them (together, the Service).
1.2.In these Terms, the following definitions apply:Account Holder means the Member who set up the Pet Profiles that a Household shares, and who invites and removes Household Members;Alarm means the feature that sends an alert to Searchers when you report your pet missing;Founding Free Year means a free year of access to the Alarm given under clause 8.3;Household means an Account Holder and up to three Household Members who share the Account Holder's Pet Profiles under clause 3.5;Household Member means a Member who has joined an Account Holder's Household by accepting an invitation;Member means a registered user of the Service, whether an Owner or a Searcher;Owner means a Member who creates a Pet Profile and uses the Service in relation to their own pet, and includes a Household Member in relation to the pets their Household shares;Pet Profile means the profile you create for your dog or cat, including photos, breed, markings, temperament and how to approach the pet;Searcher means a Member who volunteers to look out for missing pets in their local area;Sighting means a report by a Searcher that they may have seen a missing pet;Subscription means a paid subscription to the Service.
1.3.By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1.4.You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.
2.WHAT FINDMILO IS, AND WHAT IT IS NOT
FindMilo is a community alert tool. It is not insurance, not an emergency service, and does not guarantee anything.
2.1.The Service is a community alert tool. It lets an Owner send an alert to volunteer Searchers in a local area when a pet goes missing, and lets Searchers report Sightings back to the Owner.
2.2.The Service is not insurance and is not a contract of insurance. We do not accept, transfer or pool any risk, and we do not pay out, indemnify or compensate you for any loss, including if your pet is not found, is injured or dies. If you want financial protection for your pet, you should consider a separate pet insurance product from an authorised insurer.
2.3.The Service is not an emergency service. It is not a substitute for the police, a local authority, a vet, an animal warden or any other emergency or professional service. In an emergency, contact the appropriate service directly.
2.4.We do not promise, warrant or guarantee that:
(a)your pet will be found or returned;
(b)any Searcher will see your alert, respond to it, or take any action;
(c)any minimum number of Searchers is present in any area, or that any Searchers are present at all; or
(d)any Sighting is accurate, genuine or reliable.
2.5.The Service depends on the voluntary actions of independent Searchers over whom we have no control. Before you sound an Alarm, the app shows you how many Searchers are in range, which may be none.
3.YOUR ACCOUNT
you sign in with your email and a one-time code. There is no password. Give an accurate email and keep access to it safe. You can invite up to three people to share your pets as a household; each of them has their own account.
3.1.To use the Service you register an account using your email address. We email you a one-time code, and you sign in with that code. There is no password.
3.2.You may use one account as an Owner, a Searcher, or both. As an Account Holder you may also share your pets with a Household under clause 3.5.
3.3.You must provide an accurate, current email address and keep your account details up to date.
3.4.You are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure, because anyone who can receive your one-time codes can access your account. Tell us promptly at findmiloapp@gmail.com if you suspect any unauthorised use.
3.5.Households. An Account Holder may invite up to three other people to share their pets, so that a Household has no more than four people in total. To invite someone, the Account Holder enters that person's email address in the app. The invitation works only when the person signs in with that email. It works once and expires after seven days. We email the invitation to that address, and the Account Holder can also send the person a link to it themselves, for example by WhatsApp or text message.
3.6.Each Household Member has their own account. They register with their own email address and sign in with their own one-time code. Nobody shares a login.
3.7.A Household Member can see and edit the Household's Pet Profiles, add a pet, sound and end an Alarm, follow a live search, see Sightings (including any photo and any WhatsApp number a Searcher added), see how many Searchers were alerted and are looking, and receive the same alerts and emails about the Household's pets as the Account Holder. The Account Holder and the Household Members can see each other's first names in the app.
3.8.Only the Account Holder can invite or remove Household Members. A Household Member can leave the Household at any time. If a Household Member deletes their account, only they are removed. If the Account Holder deletes their account, the Household ends and the Household's Pet Profiles are deleted with it.
3.9.A person who has Pet Profiles of their own cannot join another Household. A Household Member's own searcher profile, blocks and email choices remain their own and are not shared with the Household.
3.10.When someone joins, we notify the Account Holder in the app (for example, "Sarah has joined your household"), so that a code used by the wrong person does not go unnoticed. If that happens, the Account Holder should remove that person straight away.
3.11.Your responsibility as Account Holder. Inviting someone gives them access to your pets' profiles, your searches, and the Sightings sent to them, including photos and any WhatsApp number a Searcher has shared. You must invite only people you trust with that information, enter only the email address of the person you mean to invite, and remove anyone who should no longer have access. Each Household Member must follow these Terms and the Acceptable Use Policy in their own right.
4.HOW THE ALARM AND SIGHTINGS WORK
save your pet's profile, drop a pin where it was last seen, and sound the alarm. Nearby searchers get a push and can send you a sighting. There is no messaging inside the app; a searcher can choose to share a WhatsApp number. You can report a sighting or an alarm, and block the person who sent it.
4.1.Once a Pet Profile has been saved, the Alarm is ready to use. In an area where a Subscription is required, the Account Holder also needs an active Subscription or a Founding Free Year, which covers everyone in the Household (see clause 8). There is no waiting or verification period before the Alarm becomes available.
4.2.To sound the Alarm, you drop a pin where your pet was last seen and may add a note. The app tells you how many Searchers are in range before you send it. We send a push notification to Searchers who are in range and have notifications enabled. An Alarm may reach nobody.
4.3.A Searcher may report a Sighting, which may include a map pin, a note and one photo. A Sighting appears on your live search screen. A Searcher cannot edit or delete a Sighting or its photo once it has been sent.
4.4.When reporting a Sighting, a Searcher may choose to tick a box, which is off by default, to let the Owner of that Alarm and their Household contact them on WhatsApp. If the Searcher ticks it, they enter a UK mobile number, which is stored against that single Sighting only, not on their profile. The Owner and the members of their Household then see a "WhatsApp them" button, which opens that person's own WhatsApp app on a chat with that number through a public wa.me link. A Searcher must enter only their own number, never anyone else's. How we handle this number is set out in the Privacy Policy.
4.5.FindMilo itself contains no messaging, no private thread and no calling. The optional WhatsApp handoff in clause 4.4 is the only way for an Owner and a Searcher to make contact, and it takes place outside the app on WhatsApp. We send nothing and are not part of that conversation. You can report a Sighting or an Alarm in the app, choosing either "Report only" or "Report and block". Blocking a Member means they stop reaching you and you stop reaching them: you no longer receive their Alarms or Sightings, and they no longer receive yours. They are not told. We may review what is reported to us under the Acceptable Use Policy.
4.6.When a search is closed by you or a member of your Household, or lapses after going quiet, your Pet Profile is automatically sealed again (see clause 2 of the Privacy Policy).
4.7.You interact with other Members at your own risk. See clause 5.
4.8.To protect Members from false or malicious Alarms, we may limit how many Alarms an account can sound in a period, deliver Alarms from recently created accounts as ordinary notifications that do not break through Do Not Disturb or Focus modes, and stop further alerts for an Alarm that Members report as false while we review it.
5.VOLUNTEER SEARCHERS AND SAFETY
searchers are unpaid volunteers, not our staff, and are only email-verified. Stay safe, do not trespass, and never put yourself or an animal at risk.
5.1.Searchers are unpaid volunteers. They are not our employees, agents, contractors or representatives, and they do not act on our behalf. We do not direct or control what a Searcher does.
5.2.Searchers are verified only by confirming an email address. We do not carry out phone, identity, background, criminal record or other checks. We make no representation about any Searcher's identity, character, reliability or conduct.
5.3.You deal with other Members at your own risk. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of any Member.
5.4.Every Member must follow these safety rules and any further guidance in the app:
(a)never chase, corner or attempt to catch an animal that is not yours;
(b)never trespass on land or property, and respect all access restrictions;
(c)never put yourself, another person or an animal at risk;
(d)take care near roads, water, railways and other hazards, and obey the Highway Code; and
(e)do not approach anyone in a way that could cause alarm or distress.
5.5.We may remove, suspend or restrict any Member at any time, with or without notice, including where we consider that a Member has broken these Terms, the Acceptable Use Policy or the safety rules. See also clause 11.
6.YOUR CONTENT AND THE LICENCE YOU GIVE US
you keep ownership of your photos and notes; you give us permission to use them to run the service.
6.1.You keep all rights you have in the photos, Sightings, notes and other content you submit (Your Content).
6.2.You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, store, copy, display and process Your Content solely to operate and provide the Service, including displaying a Pet Profile to relevant Searchers during a live Alarm and showing a Sighting to the relevant Owner. This licence ends when Your Content is deleted from the Service, except to the extent we must retain it by law.
6.3.You confirm that you have the rights needed to submit Your Content and to grant this licence, and that Your Content does not break these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy.
7.ACCEPTABLE USE
follow the Acceptable Use Policy. No false alarms, harassment, misuse of data, spam or scraping.
7.1.You must comply with our Acceptable Use Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
7.2.Without limiting the Acceptable Use Policy, you must not sound a knowingly false Alarm, harass any person, enter a phone number that is not your own, use Alarm, Sighting or location data for any purpose other than helping the relevant search (for example to locate an animal or person for theft or any other improper purpose), send commercial solicitations, or scrape or harvest data from the Service.
8.SUBSCRIPTIONS, PRICES AND PAYMENT
FindMilo is a paid subscription in most areas, bought and managed through the App Store or Google Play. If you join while your area is still growing, your first year is free, with no card taken and nothing that renews into a payment. One subscription covers your whole household. Apple and Google take the payment and handle refunds and cancellation.
8.1.In an area where a Subscription is required, access to the Alarm requires an active Subscription or a Founding Free Year. Some areas are free while they are still filling up, and the price switches on once an area has enough Searchers. You are shown the price that applies to you before you buy.
8.2.Prices. The Subscription price is £24 per year. FindMilo currently offers this single subscription. We may introduce additional subscription tiers in future, and where we do we will make the relevant price and terms clear before you buy.
8.3.Founding Free Year. If you become an Owner while your area is still free, you are a founding member, and your first year of access to the Alarm is free.
(a)We take no card details for a Founding Free Year, so nothing renews into a payment and you are never charged for it.
(b)At the end of each Founding Free Year, if your area is still free, you receive another Founding Free Year automatically.
(c)If your area charges by then, your Founding Free Year ends and the app shows you the price. You may then buy a Subscription through the App Store or Google Play in the same way as anyone else, or choose not to. If you do not, the Alarm is no longer available for your pets in that area from the end of your Founding Free Year.
(d)If we cannot tell whether your area charges, we give you another Founding Free Year rather than make the Alarm unavailable.
(e)Founding member status is permanent. Only the free price ends.
8.4.Households. The Account Holder's Subscription or Founding Free Year covers everyone in their Household. Household Members are never shown a price and never pay. If the Account Holder's Subscription or Founding Free Year ends in an area that charges, the Alarm stops being available to the whole Household at the same time.
8.5.How you pay. All payment is made in the app through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google is the seller of record: they take the payment, account for any VAT, and handle refunds, cancellations, renewal reminders and your statutory cancellation right. Your Subscription, its auto-renewal, its price disclosure at the point of sale, and its cancellation are governed by the terms of the app store you buy through.
8.6.Auto-renewal and cancellation. Your Subscription renews automatically through your app store account until you cancel. You cancel at any time through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings, not through us. We do not take card payments directly. This clause does not apply to a Founding Free Year, which takes no payment and never renews into a paid Subscription.
8.7.Effect of cancellation. If you cancel or your Subscription lapses, the Alarm stops being available for your pets in a paid area at the end of the period you have paid for. If you resubscribe later, there is no waiting period before the Alarm is available again.
8.8.Price changes. Any change to your Subscription price is handled through, and notified by, the app store in accordance with its rules. We will also give reasonable notice of a material price change by in-app notice and email.
9.YOUR CANCELLATION RIGHTS
your statutory right to cancel is handled by the App Store or Google Play, because you buy through them.
9.1.If you are a consumer, you have legal cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Because you buy and pay through the Apple App Store or Google Play as seller of record, those rights, and any refund, are administered through your app store account and its refund process.
9.2.To ask about a refund or cancellation, use the refund and cancellation process of the app store you bought through. You can also contact us at findmiloapp@gmail.com and we will help where we can.
9.3.This clause does not affect your other legal rights.
10.CONSUMER RIGHTS
nothing here takes away your legal rights as a consumer.
10.1.If you are a consumer, you have legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including that a digital service must be provided with reasonable care and skill and, where digital content is supplied, that it is of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Nothing in these Terms affects those rights.
10.2.Advice about your legal rights is available from Citizens Advice or your local Trading Standards office.
11.SUSPENSION AND TERMINATION
you can leave any time. We can suspend or remove accounts that break the rules.
11.1.You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time.
11.2.We may suspend, restrict or terminate your access to all or part of the Service, remove content, or close your account, where:
(a)you break these Terms, the Acceptable Use Policy or the safety rules;
(b)we reasonably suspect misuse, fraud or a risk to any person or animal; or
(c)we are required to do so by law.
11.3.Where practical and lawful, we will give you notice and, for less serious matters, a chance to put things right. For serious breaches we may act immediately.
11.4.Termination does not affect any rights or obligations that have already arisen. Clauses that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
12.OUR LIABILITY TO YOU
we do not limit liability for things the law says we cannot. Otherwise, because this is a low-cost community tool that guarantees nothing, our liability is limited.
12.1.Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for:
(a)death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
(b)fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or
(c)any liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including your statutory rights as a consumer.
12.2.Subject to clause 12.1, and reflecting that the Service is a community alert tool that makes none of the promises set out in clause 2:
(a)we are not liable for any loss or harm arising from the acts or omissions of any Member, Searcher or third party;
(b)we are not liable for your pet not being found, or for any injury to, loss of, or death of any animal;
(c)we are not liable for any failure, delay or non-delivery of any Alarm, notification or Sighting, or for an Alarm reaching no Searchers;
(d)we are not liable for any WhatsApp contact between an Owner and a Searcher, or its content, which takes place outside the Service on WhatsApp under Meta's terms; and
(e)we are not liable for business losses, as the Service is provided to you for personal, non-commercial use.
12.3.Subject to clause 12.1, our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with the Service, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise, is limited to the greater of the total Subscription fees you paid in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, and £100. Because payment is taken by the app stores, the fees you have paid can be evidenced through your app store account.
12.4.We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill but do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free or always available.
13.CHANGES TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE
we may update these terms or the service, and we will tell you about important changes.
13.1.We may change these Terms from time to time. For changes that materially affect your rights, we will give you reasonable notice by in-app notice and email. If you do not accept a change, you may stop using the Service and cancel.
13.2.We may change, suspend or withdraw features of the Service, or the whole Service, for legitimate reasons including to reflect legal requirements or improvements.
14.COMPLAINTS, GOVERNING LAW AND COURTS
if something goes wrong, tell us first and we will try to fix it. English law applies, and the courts of England and Wales deal with disputes.
14.1.If you have a complaint, please contact us first at findmiloapp@gmail.com so we can try to resolve it informally. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 5 working days and respond in full within 30 days.
14.2.These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them (including non-contractual disputes or claims), are governed by the law of England and Wales.
14.3.You and we agree that the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction to settle any such dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
15.NOTICES AND SERVICE OF DOCUMENTS
notices go by email, or by post to our mail-forwarding address. Nobody is at that address in person, so post takes a couple of working days to reach us.
15.1.Any notice or other communication given under or in connection with these Terms must be in writing and sent:
(a)to us, by email to findmiloapp@gmail.com, or by post to Sançar Sahin (FindMilo), 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX; and
(b)to you, by email to the address registered with your account, or by in-app notice.
15.2.Our postal address is a mail-forwarding address. It is not an office, nobody is present there to receive documents in person, and it cannot be visited. Post sent there is scanned and forwarded to us, so it is not received on the day of delivery.
15.3.A notice is deemed received:
(a)if sent by email, at the time of sending, unless sent after 5.00 p.m. on a working day or on a day that is not a working day, in which case it is deemed received at 9.00 a.m. on the next working day; and
(b)if sent by post to the address in clause 15.1(a), at 9.00 a.m. on the second working day after posting.
15.4.In this clause, working day means a day other than a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday in England.
15.5.This clause does not apply to the service of any documents in legal proceedings, which is governed by the applicable court rules.
16.GENERAL
standard legal housekeeping.
16.1.These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Acceptable Use Policy are the whole agreement between you and us for the Service.
16.2.If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
16.3.If we do not enforce a right straight away, that is not a waiver of that right.
16.4.You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our consent. We may transfer ours where your rights are not affected, including if the business incorporates.
16.5.A person who is not a party to these Terms has no right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 to enforce any of them.
How to contact us: findmiloapp@gmail.com / Sançar Sahin (FindMilo), 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX. This is a mail-forwarding address and cannot be visited.
